With the teaching (or brainwashing) of the professor Pangloss, youthful Candide from the 17th century believes the world is at its best no matter what happens. However, just after he and the heroine Cunegonde proclaims their love with the duet, candide sees the every darkness of the human society he has been blind of: war, murder, sexual assault, slavery. Candide still refuse to change his mind. The play ends with Candide's realization that the life is neither good or bad; it's just how it is. Known as Voltaire's masterpiece, this is not only a thoughtful literature but also a groundbreaking philosophical work.
